Helping hands/pumpkin science
Since our theme this week revolves around "helping hands", we will be discussing the various ways we can help others, and why it is so important that we do so. We will talk to the children about all of the things, big or small, that they can do to lend a helping hand in someones time of need. Selflessness and compassion are traits that can never be instilled too young. We will also touch on the topic of pumpkins and throw in a few science lessons throughout the week!
Christmas is right around the corner and we have lots to do before the year comes to an end! The kids will spend this week putting the finishing touches on their Christmas gifts, making holiday goodies, as well as practicing diligently for their Annual Christmas Program!
Tuesday, December 15: Discovery's Annual Christmas Program! Please be sure to read the information provided in the tab labeled "Christmas Program" for complete details!
Tuesday, December 18: We will be having a Pajama Party/Movie Day to reward the preschoolers for all the hard work that they put into rehearsing for their Christmas Program. On this day, Cindy will order pizza for lunch and the kids will be able to watch the movie of their choice in their jammies!
Tuesday, January 7: CrossFit Billings will be here at 9:45 to spend the morning exercising with the preschoolers. Each child scheduled to attend on this day will need $4.00!
This week, nursery rhymes will be the foundation of our daily activities. The kids enjoy this week because they are typically fairly familiar with select nursery rhymes, so extended discussion and coordinated projects only further their knowledge.
This week, we will be focusing on opposites! The children are typically aware of many commonly used opposites, but this week we will push their knowledge a bit further and challenge them on the topic a bit!
St. Patrick's Day/all things green
Tuesday this week will be filled with St. Patrick's Day projects, arts, and crafts! And since our color this month is green, we will keep the St. Patrick's Day spirit and carry out the remaining days this week discussing all things green.
Whether it be watching a line of ants march down a sidewalk carrying a bread crumb, trying to catch a fluttering butterfly, or digging for worms after a rain storm...kids love bugs! Throughout the week, we will talk about a variety of bugs the preschoolers see in their every day lives as well as the purpose they serve within our environment.
Rain & rainbows
Since "April showers bring May flowers", this seems like the perfect week to discuss the rainbows that follow closely behind a rain storm. During this week, we will also utilize the "rainbow" theme as a way to review the colors we have been learning thoughout the year.
Reminder about upcoming assessments
- Monday, March 30: We will begin assessments for those children who are eligible for Kindergarten in the fall of 2020. We are aiming to have them all completed by Friday, April 24. Once the assessments have been completed, they will be placed in your child's file located at the top of the stairs for you to take home and review. We will also attach the assessment that was done on your child at the beginning of the preschool year, which will allow you to compare and see the progression over the course of the preschool year. If you have any questions, please ask Jacque and she can direct you to the teacher who assessed your child, and would be able to accurately answer them to the best of their knowledge.
This week, we will be learning all about dinosaurs! The kids are always fascinated by this topic. They learn what it means to be "extinct", as well as why certain dinosaurs have specific features such as spikes, long necks, or wings, and that these features actually serve a purpose. We will discuss the differences between carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores in addition to various other fun dino facts!
This week the preschoolers will be discussing the many forms of transportation. From cars and bicycles, to boats and helicopters...if it moves us from one point to the next, it's transportation!
