Classroom Continuity

Our first task of the year is to get the children broken out into their daily groups.  The groups are determined in one of two ways, depending on the children's age:
Kindergarten eligible kids:
The children who are eligible for Kindergarten in the fall of 2021 will be individually assessed on the basic knowledge that we intend to cover this year during Preschool.  From there, we will evaluate those assessments and then group the children into their classrooms based on their academic foundations.  By doing this, it will allow us to incorporate minor adjustments to our curriculum for each Kindergarten eligible classroom, in order to keep all of the children engaged and challenged.  This will also allow us the opportunity to provide a more detailed and thorough lesson for the children who may be struggling to latch on to certain concepts.  It is our hope that by making these the academic adjustments, it will give each child the best chance to succeed while at Discovery!
Non-eligible kids:
The classes for the children who are not eligible for Kindergarten in the fall of 2021 will be determined by their birthdate.  In the past, we have attempted to group all of the children based solely on academics.  However, there are instances in which a child's developmental and academic skills do not necessarily coincide.  With that, we now opt to break the non-eligible groups out by age.  Seeings how all of these children have another year to continue grasping academic concepts prior to entering Kindergarten, we'd like to focus  a bit more on teaching age appropriate developmental skills (positive social interactions, sharing/taking turns, following classroom routines, walking in a line, etc.).  We are hoping that this foundation will enable the children to better excel in a structured setting down the road.
Once the classes are broken out, we'll make our best effort to see to it that the children have consistency with their classmates as well as their teacher.  We've found that children tend to excel when they're provided with continuity in their daily routine.  They learn to anticipate what they can expect each day as well as develop a clear understanding of the expectations set for them by their teacher.  Consistency is not only beneficial for the children, but for their teacher as well.  By spending each day with a particular group of children, the teachers are able to get a better understanding of their individual personalities, interests, and character traits.  They will then be able to use this knowledge to modify ordinary lessons into personalized lessons that spark the child's interest and bridge any gaps to ensure that a concept is fully understood by the child.
Unfortunately, since our daily enrollment tends to fluctuate throughout the week due to part-time and rotating schedules, your child may flip flop between 2 classrooms in order to make sure that we are meeting the State ratio guidelines.  In order to keep up with such regulations, should your child happen to be on the bubble between two classes, they may not have one teacher, but rather two teachers they are consistently with from day to day.
